Now that we finally have some privacy, I can ask the really important questions:

What is the difference between a cupcake and a muffin?
temptationaccomplished: (messy)

It's all a matter of texture, I think. At least in my experience with them. Cupcakes are creamier and smoother, like a cake, at least if they're made correctly, and muffins are less so.
temptationaccomplished: (but idk enough about stars to dispute it)

Oh, no, I'm pretty sure I've had spiced carrot muffins with cream cheese frosting, but perhaps they were mislabeled.

Then again, I have also had some very dense cupcakes. But by and large, I think cupcakes are supposed to be fluffier!

Then I shan't, but it's quite good, whatever the correct nomenclature.
temptationaccomplished: (be nice I'm cute)

I think so. I suppose Confetti Cake is more your speed? Or triple chocolate? Frankly, I could go for a good tiramisu right now, but that's a whole different beast.

temptationaccomplished: (mm that's a funny taste in my mouth)

What in god's name is rainbow chip?
temptationaccomplished: (is it tho?)

[personal profile] temptationaccomplished 2020-07-28 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Are they chocolate? yogurt? Are the individual colors flavored differently?
temptationaccomplished: (cheeky bastard)

But you are our resident scientist! What about scientific curiosity?
temptationaccomplished: (these glasses mean business)

[personal profile] temptationaccomplished 2020-07-28 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Bitterblue is a computer scientist or some such? And Dr. Whitly is, I believe, a medical doctor so scientific by trade though not strictly a "scientist."

I didn't mean anything so involved as food composition at, say, a chemical level.

I simply meant you, my dear, had a wonderful excuse to apply that famed Scientific Method I hear tell about and do an elaborate taste test.
not_as_i_do: (well you see...)

... You know, never gave it much thought. But now that I do ... I think it's mostly in terms of which seem more like breakfast and which seem more like dessert. But even that's not quite it, is it?

Language is amusing, any way you come at it.
not_as_i_do: (totally sane person yep)

[personal profile] not_as_i_do 2020-07-29 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
That would be my qualifier as well, I think. As for carrot cake ... largely I agree, but every now and then I'm struck by the strange urge to have a piece. Then it tides me over for a few years or so.

[he raises his eyebrows and drops into a stage whisper, glancing around as though he doesn't want said carrot-cake-lover to overhear] I think it's really more about the cream cheese frosting.
not_as_i_do: (this pleases the crazy)

[personal profile] not_as_i_do 2020-07-29 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
[he laughs] So does that put carrot cake in the same category as devil's food?

Well of course, now you've got me wanting a cupcake. I wonder if the little bakery a few blocks from me is open at this hour...
not_as_i_do: (totally sane person yep)

[personal profile] not_as_i_do 2020-07-29 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
I think I might. If they are, should I pick you up a couple? There are a few bars that never blink when I bring in food. I could trade you a cupcake for a chocolate stout. Bet they'd pair well.
not_as_i_do: (you're gonna be fine)

[personal profile] not_as_i_do 2020-07-29 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm sorry, Anakin... I didn't think. Underage, or just avoiding alcohol?
not_as_i_do: (hello social network)

[personal profile] not_as_i_do 2020-08-04 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I see. ... I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend. When you get to be my age, everyone looks so damn young. [he flashes a sheepish smile]

I still want to make good on that cupcake, though, if you're interested.
not_as_i_do: (you rang?!)

[personal profile] not_as_i_do 2020-08-12 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, why don't I leave that to you? Least I can do after that little faux pas.

[besides, he feels like he's been choosing little cafes for folks left and right over the last week]
temptationaccomplished: (bitchy nomming)

In what world would "Devil's" anything be white and springy? If you mean the cake with the hole in the center, you're thinking of an Angel Food Cake.
temptationaccomplished: (smug bastard)

Chocolate. A sinfully rich chocolate cake.
temptationaccomplished: (smug bastard)

[personal profile] temptationaccomplished 2020-07-30 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
Probably because it was once a luxury item and seems decadent. It's also not exactly good for you. Though we also associate sugar with fun, frivolity, and childish joy--which are not sins.

I rather thought it was the inclusion of chocolate and butter that made Devil's Food especially sinful.
temptationaccomplished: (yes erm that was exactly what I planned)

[personal profile] temptationaccomplished 2020-07-31 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure if the latter part of that is sarcasm, but I think that's exactly it. It's "sinful" because it makes you happy, contributes to weight gain, and tastes good.

The labeling of items as a Vice or Virtue is often more to do with church or society policing other people's right to outward or "excessive" enjoyment of things, and less to do with actual issues of morality.
temptationaccomplished: (oh let me tell you)

[personal profile] temptationaccomplished 2020-08-02 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
I must say I heartily agree with you there.
