Well of course, now you've got me wanting a cupcake. I wonder if the little bakery a few blocks from me is open at this hour...

I think I might. If they are, should I pick you up a couple? There are a few bars that never blink when I bring in food. I could trade you a cupcake for a chocolate stout. Bet they'd pair well.

In what world would "Devil's" anything be white and springy? If you mean the cake with the hole in the center, you're thinking of an Angel Food Cake.

Why do people associate sin with sugar?

Probably because it was once a luxury item and seems decadent. It's also not exactly good for you. Though we also associate sugar with fun, frivolity, and childish joy--which are not sins.

I rather thought it was the inclusion of chocolate and butter that made Devil's Food especially sinful.

And here I woud have thought it was the slavery system built up around the cultivation of sugar and chocolate.

But I guess making a natural body response to stimuli a sin makes sense.

I'm not sure if the latter part of that is sarcasm, but I think that's exactly it. It's "sinful" because it makes you happy, contributes to weight gain, and tastes good.

The labeling of items as a Vice or Virtue is often more to do with church or society policing other people's right to outward or "excessive" enjoyment of things, and less to do with actual issues of morality.
