So I’ve been working on this for a few days to get my mind off sooooo many things.

[Anakin holds up his prosthetic arm and presses what must be a small button. Strings of LED lights following what would be muscle lines light up. They are red at first. He presses a button again and the lights start to change colors, rotating through the color spectrum.]

And I have this setting-

[Another press of the button and the lights flash in a pattern.]

And one more thing.

[He presses a different button and then he moves his arm. Every time he moves the arm or hand, the prosthetic makes robot noises.]

I’m ready for my next rave.

Appears so. That's very clever. [A bit unnecessary (or Extra, as you kids call it) but clever. He can understand the need to keep one's mind and hands busy.] What made you decide on that specifically?

[It's absolutely necessary! Anakin doesn't know why he didn't do this sooner.]

I have a robotic arm - why not this specifically?

I hadn't really thought about that. Leaning into the aesthetic, as it were, I guess?

I don't have any implants so I don't know if I can call myself a cyborg yet.

Do you want to be a cyborg? Seems awfully troublesome, really.

... I'm an amputee ...

That doesn't necessarily mean you want implanted cyborg parts, does it?

Science is closer to biomechanical prosthetics than they are to regrowing limbs.

You're really good with electronics. Ever thought of freelancing... say maybe to repair a bashed in motorcycle taillight? It's been a week.

Are you willing to? I mean I could take it to a shop but they always try to find some way to up-charge you.

[ Anthony cleared his throat as his rambling only seemed to make things worse. Moving on then! ]

Yea, I can do that. I have a guy who can get the parts. Should be too difficult for a taillight kit.

I was, but I was also saying I could do it.

[ A beat. ]

So... why did you chose to go disco on your arm?

Disco is like the seventies.

[ Whatever the kids were calling it these days... ]

Still you have to admit most people wouldn't have thought to add lights to their arm.

Most people don't have a prosthetic arm.

Granted.

But if they did I doubt they would have come up with a DIY light show.

I used to build and race motorcycles. Can't do that right now. Needed to get my tinkering fix somewhere, somehow. Work with what you've got and all that.

You were on the racing circuit? Private or professional?

[ Oh how his smile did brighten. ]

I did a spot of racing, cars mostly, but I had a partner who did all of the tinkering.

Pro. Until I joined the Air Force.

What kind of cars did you race?

Amateur circuit. I drove whatever junkyard beast my friend could get running.

Nice. Maybe someday I'll drive again. Don't really need to in NYC, tho.

You don't need to, but it is fun. It would be hard to keep a car in the city. Just finding a parking space, woo! I don't know how people manage it.

Course... a big classic silver deal would be so tempting.

I know who I'm inviting to my shows. Forget penlights, that'll be a torch. That's cool, seriously.

I didn't know you were into raves.

I'm not, necessarily, but that's mostly for lack of experience, I think. I was thinking of band live shows, though - maybe it's a cultural thing, but everyone had penlights at the shows in my memories. There's a reason I said I was the red one. Ah, but usually we had purple lights for our vocalist.

Maybe one of these days? Once I'm mostly sure nobody's following me and reporting my movements? It sounds like it could be fun, as long as I can hear when it's all over.

I recommend an outdoor rave for your first event then. Not as loud.

I'll bring earplugs anyway, but sure, that sounds like a decent idea. Who knows, maybe I'll even decide I like them. And if not, hey, I'll try almost anything once.

... that kind of defeats the purpose of a rave. But to each their own.

It'll be loud. An oppressive crowd of people. And everyone is drunk and/or high. And lots of flashing lights.

I like some of those things? Well, still might be fun. If I can find free time after finals are done and I'm not freaking out over how they went, maybe!

A rave is the perfect place to go to burn off frustration or excitement over finals.

I could see that! It'd be the kind of place to lose yourself in what's going on, right? Focus on what's in front of you. That kind of thing.

Or maybe I'm overthinking it. I'm probably overthinking it.

Yes to both.

Good way to lose yourself in the moment. But don't over thinking it.
