[It's an unusually frazzled Elliott that greets the feed. Maybe extra unusual as his normal medium of choice is text]

S-so uh! Something happened.

[There's some unpleasant rattling around noises and weird close-ups as he sets the phone down, rambling as he does so] And I need everyone to see so I'm sure it's not just a hallucination or something? I just had a memory while I was dozing off during my commute home and I just thought I'd try it you know, because it'd be cool, but then-

[Elliott retreats to a distance that he thinks is good for a video and holds up a hand, thumb and middle finger pressed together. He breathes, then follows the motion through with a snap. A flame bursts to life on the tip of his forefinger, hovering like a fireball in miniature. It follows the motion of his hand as it shakes.

Anyone not focused on the flame might see that he looks dangerously close to tears]

I uh- I think.. I think magic might actually be real? Maybe? If this is actually happening?

[He laughs- it's just shy of hysterical]

Thank God. Okay, I'm not hallucinating. Okay. I can handle this.

[Belatedly remembering she asked him something] But no, uh- it's not burning me, actually.

You're not hallucinating. And hey, Anakin shouldn't have a monopoly on bullshit powers, right? You can definitely handle this. I believe in you. It'll be okay.

Right, yeah. He had the empathy thing.

[He stares at the flame a moment] Wait, how did I... how did she-

[He waves it around a bit, then tries snapping again, and relaxes when it goes back out]

But oh my god Lisa, I can- this is- I can't believe it.

[...no manual, huh. Well, at least he figured out how to put it out on his own. She'd have suggested something quite a bit dumber.]

Honestly, it's kinda cool! It is a little hard to believe at first, but that doesn't make it any less of a thing. You totally need to start carrying marshmallows around.

Who is she, though? Did you remember how to use that from a vision or something?

Oh, uh, actually, I mean yeah, it was a vision- a memory- but it wasn't something I did. There was a girl- or a pair of girls, really- but one of them snapped her fingers to test if she'd gotten her magic back. I guess it had been stolen somehow, and- long story. Anyway, I just did it for fun, but I didn't actually expect it to do anything.

-and then you understandably freaked out because that shouldn't have worked for you. Okay, yeah, I get it.

Is it just fire? I know you didn't exactly get an instruction book, but maybe there's more.

Uh, well, so far, nothing else happens when I snap.

But there was.. something else, last week that I could try again.. I did get an instruction manual for that one, kind of.

Well, you can't tie everything to the same trigger, you'd just get all your stuff at the same time, right? But... Are you comfortable trying the other thing?

Yeah, I can try it. It's just- eh, my 'instructor' said some weird things about using it in battle to improve. Anyway.

[He breathes, then holds out his arm and concentrates. A soft orange glow fills his palm, and then to his surprise, a translucent orange blade appears a few inches beyond his fingers. It floats there for a moment, suspended in the air, then dissipates.

Elliott briefly forgets he's recording and just sort of stares at where the glowing blade-thing was]

[This comment, admittedly, doesn't inspire confidence because it doesn't tell her what to expect. Is this going to blow something up? But no, when the light coalesces into a blade, her breath catches in her throat. She waits a few seconds after it fades, both of them staring at his hand, but it seems like it's over. Then:]

Um. Holy shit? Elliott, you already have a sword but that was super cool, what was that?

[Oh right.

He straightens and lets his arm drop]

It's some power that my previous incarnation had. ..The one before the last time. His name was Erdwin. Master Pang said some shit about mastering the power being relentless and excruciating, so I hadn't tried it yet. Almost didn't expect anything to happen, even. But, well, that happened.

That chart is sounding better and better, you know. [It's playful, to ease the tension, but she's back to business quickly enough.]

Maybe it's just me on this side of the video, but that didn't look super relentless or excruciating? Was it stable? Or did you let it go since you didn't have anything to cut with it?

No, it felt fine. I was concentrating, but then it just vanished. But the same thing happened in my memory of it, too. That's when Pang said that I'd master it better by battling my grandfather. So, that was weird too. I guess it just means that it has some greater power.

Battling your grandfather? Elliott, your memories keep getting crazier the more I hear. And this is with the reincarnation thing! But at least it worked, kinda sorta?

Yeah, that's not even half of it even, but I haven't been able to process everything. I've started a journal to try and piece it together because a lot of it doesn't make sense. I'll have to sit down and really try to figure this out at some point, but right now, I.. magic!

Magic! I'm sorry, I'm over here trying to make sense of it and. Oh, just it's so exciting! Hey, maybe you need a magic studies journal too.

Yeah, maybe. I guess I should try out everything I see in my memories.

I still can't believe it, though. It feels like I'm in a dream and I'm going to be so disappointed when I wake up.

[Lisa's smile turns a little more indulgent.]

Then keep dreaming. Until your dreams become reality. It makes me happy to see you so excited about this, so keep pushing.

[He colors a bit]

It's pretty stupid though, isn't it? To wish magic was real. ..I think I need to dunk my head under some cold water or something to be sure I'm not still asleep on the train.

Why is that so wrong? Dreams take a lot of shapes, and you're in a unique place. If anyone can make magic real, it's got to be you. I'm watching it. Believe in yourself.

[He grins, a bit rueful]

You're starting to sound like a cat poster or something. I mean it's wild, right? Crazy, even. I know Anakin has that empathy thing, but I can see this. I'm so glad it's the weekend, cause I think this is going to take some time to get over. God, how am I going to back to school like this?? Just.. acting like it isn't a thing.

Are you calling me a meme, sir? [Lisa puts on a mock offended face, which promptly blanks a little.] Then again, if I'm actually being encouraging, then I guess it was working?

But, uh. Sure, you have magic now, but nothing you've shown me changes your day. You'll have to keep it a secret, but I can't imagine you told that many people about your sword, right?

Well no, of course not. I mean I'm not going tell anyone, but it's just going to be really weird, I think.

Knowing that you're the only person there that can suddenly bust out a fireball, you mean? I get that. All this has kinda been a little polarizing. And I haven't even gotten the crazy stuff like you have.

Yeah.

It's crazy enough with memories and stuff showing up out of nowhere. Everything's going so fast. ..I think I'm going to do some hardcore chilling this weekend.
