Video - Diving into online dating apps
[ Strange dreams from the night before plagued his mind but he settled down to try and carry on with his chosen mission in spite of them. ]
Are you a man or a woman interested in finding a man or a woman?
[ Anthony read the question carefully before typing in an answer and speaking it aloud although he was sitting alone. ]
Sure.
[ He wasn't entirely certain what Alec's preferences were so Anthony hedged his bets and picked both. All the better to give his antisocial cousin as many choices as possible. The profile pages were filled out with Alec's information, the usual age, sex and location goodies along with the likes and dislikes... which were heavier on the dislikes than the likes. And it was rounded out with a handsomely smiling selfie of Anthony himself. They did practically look like twins! So what if the smile was a lie and unlikely to actually be seen on Alec's face. The potential new couple could work that out when they finally met.
Anthony sat in the gloom of his bedroom typing up as many online dating profiles on his laptop as there were online dating websites. Not for him of course, he had some one. It was Alec's own fault for making it sound like he was out there looking for some one to love and going about it in entirely the wrong ways. He just needed a little help, a friendly nudge to get the ball rolling and then the rest was entirely up to him only some of these questions were so outlandish and wild that they needed to be shared with the 'Different' crowd! ]
How do you prefer to be kissed, slow and tender or hard and passionately?
[ He frowned and gestured at his cell phone. ]
How would you even answer anything like that?? We're meeting for the first time not arranging a sleepover! Its a bit much for a profile question isn't it? Only thing worse would be asking how much you are making or... diving right into the do you want kids question.
[ His room was dark with the shades pulled tightly closed and yet he still wore his sunglasses as if he needed them to shield him from the glow of the computer. After a while he grumbled and rubbed at his eyes, while still keeping them very carefully shielded from the camera. ]
Sod it. I'll think of something to write in.
[ Anthony paused and frowned again at the screen.]
And now someone's asking if I'll watch their cat this weekend??
[ Each words was typed angrily. ]
Hire. A. Sitter.
At least a few of these don't look like lost causes. What do you lot think, is the online dating market always this bad? Maybe there is a better site out there?

[ He lied like a rug as he squirmed off the bed and set about making Alec better tucked. Fluffed pillows to lean back against did make it so much easier to drink the requested tea. ]
I'll get the tea. Back in a minute.
[ Making his way to the door he glanced back once, just to make certain Alec was planning on staying there until he returned, and then he was off. Down in the kitchen to boil the water, fill a teapot, and he returned with the tea after all was done. ]
Still awake?

A long time ago, I was engaged. We had been together for...two years. [it still left a bitter taste in his mouth] You never knew her. No one did. I wanted it that way. Wanted to pretend I was someone else.
Long story short, it went to shit.
no subject
You whot...? Two years?!
Why? You don't have to pretend to be anyone else!
no subject
In the other life, I was divorced. Don't know how long that lasted, can't have been too long.
Anyway, are you seeing a pattern here?
no subject
[ Your demonic cousin; sentimental, melodramatic, and a secret optimist. ]
You just haven't found the right one. I nearly made the same mistake.
no subject
Just enjoy yourself and let me sort myself out would you? [he sighed and reached up to ruffle Anthony's hair] But thank you...for thinking of me.
no subject
Unfortunately he sucked at helping. His good deeds almost always came out sideways some how...]
I already said I would delete the dating profiles. You don't have to worry about them.
...
...
...
These women you were going with, tell me about them?

Her name was Claire. She was beautiful. Smart. Did IT thingies and always laughed at me when I had no idea what I was doing with myself. [a smile because it was a fond memory] We used to be able to talk for hours, take walks. She had family in Wales, you know, great bloody big sheep farm... I went out there once and we sat and watched the stars.
But it didn't work out.
Tess... I guess, worked with me. Both the same job, you know. Don't know much about her save for we had a daughter --who was perfect, that I remember. Sort of remember. At least I accomplished something in that life worth doing.
Means its bullocks to this one. [he saluted with his mug and drank deep]
no subject
[ But this was said distractedly as something else had better captured his attention. ]
You had a daughter in that other life?
[ Anthony had always thought he ought to have kids... or rather mum had. She seemed to think he would be good with them and what mum doesn't want grandkids, but that didn't seem to be in the cards for him. The only baby he had ever looked after had been destined to end the blood world! Not the most stellar introduction to child rearing... ]

[he sighed with a bittersweet wistfulness. She didn't exist, though, maybe. And if she did, she had a hell of a father but--]
Life is such a precious thing, you know. A precious fragile thing.
no subject
That's what I've been saying to you! Life is precious and fragile... it shouldn't be ignored or allowed to end without a fight... That's my point!
[ So maybe his thick headed cousin was coming around to the idea of taking better care of himself as HIS Life was precious too? Looking Alec over he doubted it and soon settled back down into sobering thoughts about this little cousin he never got to meet. She sounded cute... ]
She might be out there somewhere. Living a new life, not having remembered anything of her past yet.
no subject
[here he has a little less than nothing to show for himself]
no subject
[ More family getting back together sounded good to him but then... it was just nice to feel like he belonged some where and had people to back him up when he got into trouble. ]
Anyway I think you would be a good dad. Better than me. See, you're already trying to protect her from all this and I'd probably just drag her into it.
no subject
[but he'd like her to exist if only to meet Anthony and Ellie]
If anything she should be yours, or El's. Maybe you do drag people into trouble but you're always there to pull them back out again.
no subject
[ He couldn't help the faint smirk. ]
Sounds like a parent to me, just add a few hugs and midnight phone calls and you've got it.
no subject
[Ellie got on alright but she was the golden child. He couldn't imagine any of his would be greeted with the same warmth]
no subject
Uh... no. But, she likes girls! Its guys your mum seems to have a problem with.
Anyway my mum would be all over her. She would be spoiled rotten in no time.
no subject
[he smiled a bit]
Might be worth it just for that. But...she's better left far away from my bullshit.
It's strange to miss someone that's never really been there, isn't it.
no subject
And I don't think its strange to miss Daisy. At all. You have memories of her. So long as those exist she does.
no subject
You'd be a good bloody uncle.
no subject
I'd be a bloody nightmare. We'd stay up too late watching movies you disapprove of, sneak out, eat too much candy.
Damn...
[ It would have been fun. ]
no subject
[but the problem with would have beens was that it was all just a fantasy]
Aye, well, nevermind. It's for the best. [he set the tea aside and pulled the blanket up to his shoulders]
Thanks, Anty.
no subject
Yeah. Have a good rest.
[ Alec's phone was on the other side of the room on his dresser, it was collected and tossed onto the night stand beside his bed. ]
Ring me if you need anything.
[ And he would check back later... Just to be safe. ]
