I'm not sure where the Lotus is; that sort of thing is a little out of my bailiwick currently, but how does Cafe Frederick in Harlem sound? A good assortment of coffees, or a few wines and beers if you prefer. And, should you care for a snack, their crepes are good--not as good as Cafe Triskell*, but I think Harlem's at least a little more centrally located.

Though it may not be quite big enough to disappear in and go along without being overheard.


* But, look, he's biased because that was his first...sort of date with his boyfriend.

I've heard of Lotus, never had a chance to go. Gets pretty packed, though. Might have the same problem as the place in Harlem. ... You know, if the East Village is amenable to you both, there's a place called The Roost with a room partitioned off by sliding doors. It's actually a bar off the cafe, but early in the day? I could use my Beth Israel clout to try and get it to ourselves.
