I happen to eat one of those candy hearts last week while I was home alone with my dog and was inspired to write poetry about him. I think you might enjoy it so I'll read it now.

Voice
My adorable Franklin, you inspire me to write.
I love the way you prance and run through the dog park,
Invading my mind day and through the night,
Always dreaming about your bushy tail and
the sound of your paws padding in the house.

Your dulcet tone warn me of the mail and strangers
Your stocky trunk and wet nose are the hallmarks of a healthy pup.
Ice bites the debris of February,
And wintertime has the cushy sextet.
But you are here to keep me warm with your head on my lap.

How do I love you? Let me count the ways.
I love your golden fur, generous kisses, and brown eyes.
Thinking of your perfect silky ears fills my days.
My love for you is an endless eternity.

[ Bail laughs at himself and then cuts the feed. ]

No. I've never kept a schedule that would allow for it. Are there dog rentals?

Animal shelters look for volunteers all the time.

I could use a new hobby.

Or, any hobby, really.

Free time is a fairly new concept for me.

Any particular reason free time is new?

Most shelters will train volunteers, so if working with animals that need the attention is something you want to do, but don't want to commit to a pet yourself, they are a good place to start.

I'm a chronic overachiever in recovery.

That's good to know about shelters. It sounds like a nice way to spend a weekend.

Not burn out, at least not yet. Goals achieved.

That's commendable. A good time to make new goals.

I have some personal things to untangle before setting the next big one. "Staying sane" is probably as much as I can handle right now.
