[Jack is slightly breathless and fighting the urge to grin. For some reason his blood is up and he's fighting the urge to bounce on the balls of his feet]

This feels...familiar.....and weirdly I'm wishing I had a gun in my hand. If anyone needs help getting home let me know.  I'm not above punching one of these things if needed.

...Jack? Are you out there fighting them? I think punching them is no good if they are made of steel and metal.

Also I know. I just feel like I should be doing something but I can't think of what.

Mostly ducking and dodging though I did chuck a trash can at one. That went well since these things don't balance very well.

Do you really chuck a trash can at them? You must be very strong to lift it and make them topple over.

Well, you had me worried as well the others. I am in a dorm room at the bureau where I'm staying for safety. They come over to help me and pick me up when I call for them, and they took me here, their bureau department.

Jack, please stay safe?

You have to have a lot of strength working in theatre 8 shows a week and all that and really it was a quick reaction more than anything.

But I promise I'll be careful.

Good. I know some of the Different don't trust the bureau, but some of us are bunking out and take shelter in their department for safety. So if you need a place to stay, they let us stay here for a while until this gets sorted out.

Insanely familiar! I mean, robots and all - a whole invasion! It feels like I really really need to be out there in the thick of it trying to stop things and -

[John suddenly stands up, his tablet in hand.]

People are out there and might need help. I should be out there helping. Do you want to come with me? [He grins a bit, almost with a flair of daring madness.]

That would be...amazing...where are you I'll come and find you.

[John continues to grin; he's dressed in a rumpled suit and tie that had been meant for a day at the university teaching, but - his heart is racing, his pulse is up, and he feels alive, and thrilled that Jack is coming to join him. There's amazement, delight, and affection in his eyes.]

I'm at the edge of the southern part of Columbia University's campus. Well. What's left of it - went here to check it out and since my place of work has been replaced by a desert wasteland, I'm poking around instead. I'll find the highest point - here! Wonder if...I'll send you a GPS waypoint you can follow! Better since the city streets have all gone a bit messy here. Trying to figure out what's going on, who's responsible, help people if I can! I'd uh - if you have something to defend yourself, I'd bring it along. Robots roaming around causing trouble!

Still at home, packing a bag. I've spoken to someone from the Bureau, and they'll be sending someone out who will meet me not far from there to take me to a safer location, but I certainly wouldn't mind some company on the way.

I'm heading to go find another friend of mine but I can swing by and walk you to the Bureau first no problem. Give me a few minutes to get ready and I'll come meet you.

A friend of mine asked me to walk him to the Bureau first and then I'll track you down.

[Jack feels that look do something deep inside his soul and it makes his heart race more. Again this feels familiar even though Jack can't understand why it does. It's less like he's missing memories and more like he's missing pieces.]

As for weapons I feel both like I don't need one and yet I'm missing one at the same time. Hopefully I'll figure out a balance between the two when I find you.

[Jack has been having weird feelings about the Bureau lately and the less he has to interact with them the happier he is. Still he doesn't want to piss anyone off over there either.]

Bureau. Right. I'll try not to be far from there. Wouldn't want anything unpleasant to happen to you. I keep getting shot at - you'd think they were trying to get me to not like them!

[The cheek is evident in his tone; John sounds breathless but enthused nonetheless. He's been out trying to sort out what he could about these invaders - he'd found some of the damaged droid husks and tried to pick them apart - but he wasn't an engineer, after all.]

I'm not a fan of weapons, really - better ways of getting out of a pickle. But not everyone feels that way. Don't worry - I won't have too much fun without you!

I threw a garbage can at one....they really didn't like that, though I found out these things are like turtles once you knock them down they can't really get back up again.

[Jack finds himself bouncing on his heels again like he just wants to start running and never stop]

You'd better not.

A garbage can! Brilliant! Not sure why I didn't think of that. I'll have to try some rocks or...something. I've been taking bits and pieces of them from the broken ones I've found to try and see what makes them tick.

[He considers that for a moment as he ducks into an alleyway, and holds up his tablet to get a better look at Jack. His dark eyes, for a half a second, look as though they'd seen into the cosmos - the familiarity of combat and rescue, uncovering a grand mystery. On his back, he's strapped one of the droid's detached heads and a few more internal parts.]

Wouldn't dream of it. Half the fun's having you there to get into trouble with.

I wonder if we could try hacking that thing somehow....these droids seem kind of simple

Maybe we should think things like that when we meet up.

Good thing I'm good with computers. I bet we'd have to find what's controlling them all, though. I mean - it's a whole mess of 'em, so there's bound to be a remote control location sending out orders. It seems like there'd be far too many variables if they just operated independently - easier if they're all programmed the same, like - work computers on the same network. Easier if they're all connected at a central hub that sends programs, downloads, and updates en masse rather than letting end users muck up the whole thing independently.

I'm headed for the Bureau building! I'll meet you there!
