[voice]

[The voice is that of a young man, a little East Coast in accent.]

Late getting here, but look, ok. It took me a minute to cope with whole...thing. Kind of crashed my bike on that first memory, so, you know, wasn't exactly up to hanging out and making friends on the "Different Social Media Channel."

Anyway, I was gonna come on here and be like "Nice to meet you all," but then there's some guy talking about having memories of dying and instead I want to know where we un-sign up for this. Because it was kind of fun-and-games when it was like ...fighting monsters and voice-in-your-head prophecies, but--yeah. Not cool.

...Sorry. Not to make light of his--memory, but it sounds like I got off easy.

I don't really have a question, since I take it we can't really unsign-up. Just thought I should check-in on this thing.

[A pause]

No, actually I do have a question. The Martin guy said he was the, uh. [He fishes out the business card.] The, uh, Head of the Department of Containment at the Bureau of Inter-dimensional Activities.

Are we all supposed to be from different dimensions, or like...the same one?

[The young man's voice sounds a bit familiar, though Emberto can't quite place from where. Ah well, he's sure it will come to him later.]

Given some of what I've seen in my own memories, I suspect different ones. Unless our own dimension ever played host to strangely adorable but aggressive blob creatures that look like blue Hershey kisses with faces; one of my more recent memories included fending a group of the little things off with a sword.

You have some nice scenery out that way. Taking a train through the Rockies always sounded fun to me.

With Baby Bop and B.J. as his accomplices! I'll never look at that show the same way again.

Hmm... I've remembered a few dragons too, but they were all very clearly flesh and blood, not skeletons. Though I've only recovered a portion of my old memories, so who knows what I might find out about my former self as time goes on?

Heck no, by that point they'd basically have to stop calling us Different and just call us New Yorkers.

Wouldn't that still require you to have insurance? I don't really know what it all entails.

I do have very clear memories of growing up here in New York.

But also very clear memories of growing up on a different planet.

But I'm not sure the one contradicts the other.

I bet the Bureau knows and isn't telling us.

Some religions include reincarnation as part of their belief systems.

I haven't studied any that do, no.

But could ideas of the afterlife actually just be another life, in a different "dimension" than this one?

I don't know how to verify any of what I just speculated.

[Emberto chuckles.]

Perhaps. A great many of us seem to have been very adventurous people in our past lives, so who knows what we may find?
